Roney’s Graduation

While KFACE primarily sponsors girls, we do have one male student that is sponsored by one of our Directors, Erma. His name is Roney and he has always been an excellent student! He recently graduated from University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Records Management and Information Technology.
Congratulations Roney!! Everyone at KFACE is very proud of you!

Javela’s Graduation

KFACE was so pleased to receive a letter from one of our students, Javela, who recently graduated from Laipikia University with a degree in Environmental Science. Congratulations Javela!

The journey that started in February 2012 from ST. JOSEPH MUKASA’S GIRLS SECONDARY SCHOOL, MIROGI to SORI HIGH SCHOOL where I finalized my high school studies, came to an end on 27th August, 2021 at the LAIKIPIA UNIVERSITY during their 8th graduation, where I was given the power to read and do all that appertains to ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE.

So far, I have been able to make an impeccable network through the organization. KFACE gave me friends who were/are like the sisters I never had.

From here on, I will be able to put all that I have learnt to practice. I am so well versed in the field of environmental science and will be willing to do anything in or outside the field . Now I am happy to say that the future of my family (my aunt and brother) is promising and I will be able to take care of them. The sad part is I never had the chance to celebrate with them (my aunt and brother) because of the novel corona virus.

I’d like to sincerely thank you again for the support. I wouldn’t have been who I am today without your help. From the bottom of my heart I am so happy. I wish you could see how I am smiling as I write this letter.

Thank you!

Javela

President’s Report

KFACE held their Annual General Meeting on Tuesday May 18, 2021. Although it was a difficult year due to COVID, it was a highly successful year as well. Read our President’s Report below.

The year began in anticipation of graduations. Of the 20 students remaining in the program, 9 were to have finished by the summer, another 10 by the following summer, which would have been now. There was also Vivian who has 2 more years of study under an Engineering scholarship in China.

And then came COVID.

The schools were shut down in the spring, partially re-opened in the summer with good intentions of making up for lost time, then closed again, reopened in February 2021 and closed once more in March. Consequently, all of the graduations have been delayed by about a year.

However, despite the hurdles, we still managed to add 4 university graduations as well as 6 more which are expected as early as August. These graduations bring me personally more satisfaction and excitement than I could have imagined. They mark the completion of a long journey for us, the girls, and their families; and there are 10 more to come sometime in 2022. I have to admit I was worried that some of our girls might disappear into the background but, far from it, without exception they are all passing challenging programs. Their determination is real and proven over and over by the results. Their lives have changed dramatically and so have they. In all, at the end, we will be able to claim 40 graduates between secondary and post secondary programs.

The year was also marked by a dangerous medical crisis for a student who urgently needed, at her young age, a hip replacement. She was no longer able to walk and other less expensive options would have left her crippled for life. Insurance provided by KFACE helped, but the remaining cost was high (about $5,000) and very far out of reach for her family or community, and so we launched a special appeal and we managed to raise the money. The happy ending is that, after months of painful disability, she was able to march proudly in her graduation ceremony a few weeks ago.

It was a difficult but highly successful year.

With just a few students remaining in school, next year may be our last time of full operation. However, we have something important on the horizon which KFACE friends will surely hear about in the coming months. In fact, we hope to raise funds to provide substantial help to a local Kenyan initiative that provides greatly needed health care for the community, but which can also give training and even jobs to our graduates and other young Kenyans. The details are still developing. Expect to hear from us about them.

Allison, Martin, Margherita, Melissa, Rosalind, and Erma join me in special thanks to everybody who supported us this year.

Letter from Maurene

We received a lovely letter from Maurene on her graduation:

Hello, receive my warm greetings. Hoping that you are keeping safe amidst this pandemic. Dear team KFACE, I am writing to express my sincere gratitude for making KFACE sponsorship possible. I am deeply appreciative for your support. Education had been the greatest gift in my life and I am so happy about my achievements in the academic field.

High school was fun despite the challenges because of my condition but I thank God I made it all the way to University. I pursued my dream career and am hoping to become a marine biologist one day. I recently graduated with a second class honours lower division and was granted the power to read and write, can proudly say that I am a DEGREE HOLDER!

I am determined to work even extra hard and pursue other great achievements so that I can also be able to help the less fortunate in the society. I believe in myself and most importantly I believe in the Almighty who has seen me through. Once again thank you so much for your unending support in my education and health. May the Almighty God bless you abundantly.

Update on Maurene

Everyone at KFACE is so pleased to announce that Maurene’s surgery went well! She is now recovering and learning to walk again. Best wishes to Maurene in her continued recovery! ❤

Maurene

**UPDATE** You are AMAZING!! With your generosity and that of our matching donor we have reached our target of $4,000. We are now working with our Kenya-based coordinator to ensure Maurene’s surgery goes ahead without delay. We’ll keep you updated on Maurine’s progress. Thank you again for all your support!

The Kenya Foundation to Aid Children through Education works to make education financially viable for very poor girls in Kenya.  We accept girls who have little hope of even going to high school. Now, after ten years, we are delighted that all of our 40 students have been able to complete a high school education, and 30 of them went on to diploma or university programs.

One of our students, Maurene, is a special situation and we are asking for your help with this truly merciful and worthy cause.

Maurene suffers from Sickle Cell Anemia, a genetic blood disease far more common in Africa than in North America.  She has been hospitalized several times during the eight years we sponsored her, with severe and painful complications.  About to graduate from university, she has been hospitalized twice this year. She risks becoming lame as her painful condition worsens. With some extra help from her sponsor, she has had x-rays, transfusions and sees a Specialist who tells us that her only option is a hip replacement.

KFACE is determined to help. Her insurance covers only one third of the $6,000 cost.  Her friends and family in Kenya are fundraising for her, but their ability to give is low. We need to raise $4,000 for the surgery, as soon as possible.

We are privileged to have a supporter who will match your donation dollar for dollar.  So, double the impact of your gift to help Maurene now.

To make a truly consequential gift please donate on our website. Thank you for your generosity.

Valarie’s Graduation

Congratulations to another of our KFACE students who has graduated from University!! Valarie graduated from Zetech University where she studied Business Management. George and two other KFACE students, Cecilia and Javela, were there to help celebrate Valarie’s achievement!

Valarie also sent KFACE a really lovely letter about her achievements and plans for the future.

I am writing this letter to offer my sincere gratitude for your financial help and support throughout my entire high school and university studies. Thank you all for believing in me. I would love to inform you that I graduated on 13th November 2020 with a first class honours in Business Administrator and Management (finance option). I must admit the journey wasn’t an easy one, but through hard work and determination, I made it and I’m proud I was among the best students in my class.

This achievement is just the beginning. I would wish to continue with my studies to masters and even phd level. Due to the pandemic we held a virtual graduation and I am happy my friends together with kface students and George joined me in celebrating my greatest achievement.

The sponsorship has surely changed my life. I have been able to achieve more than I ever thought I would achieve, all thanks to the kface family. By awarding me the sponsorship you lightened my financial burden. You ensured my rent and fees were paid on time and ensured that all I had to do was to focus on my studies. Your generosity has motivated and challenged me to one day give back to the less fortunate children in the society the same help you offered me.

Thank you all kface members and may God bless you all. Keep safe always, Valarie

My hobby is swimming, since our school has swimming pool I opted to take swimming lessons, of which I excelled in and as we speak I am in the school team and one of the best swimmers.( I love breaststroke swimming style), I like basket ball, how it needs energy and effort. I like doing exercises because it keeps a person in good shape and after them I feel refreshed. I have always had interest in french language and since I was not being offered at my high school, I have decided to take french classes at Egerton university. but before then I have learnt few basics from youtube.
Being in K-face programme is the best thing that has ever happened to me, and am really happy the chance and blessing came to me at an appointed time of God, I know I am really lucky to be one of the benefactors of the programme. I am always glad that someone somewhere is caring for my education and sacrifices all they got to put me in school, a big thank you to all the sponsors of k-face.
